- People are overwhelmed with information.
- People have short attention and retention spans.
- Skillful presenting is not the same as public speaking. Both the approach and the response are different.
- Presenting is audience-oriented - Public speaking is speaker-oriented - The purpose of every presentation is to persuade.
- It is more important for the audience to understand the message. It is not an opportunity for the presenter to impress.
- Every presentation must satisfy four criteria:
- attention getting - meaningful - memorable - activating
